Ad Astra 'Subversion', 1989, a forgotten 80s music treasure! Perhaps some of you might fancy a listen to what could have been the best band ever to come out of Kansas City! We were an odd nexus of many styles, although solidly rooted in "New Wave/Post Modern MTV" at the very end of the eighties! Our 3 albums melded: A Flock of Seagulls, U2, Bauhaus, The Cure, The Smiths, Modern English, Tears For Fears, Rush, Van Halen, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie & Banshees, Satriani, Yngwie, The Police, and more! Such a great serendipity of the time, with stellar guitars, electronic/acoustic hybrid percussion, groovy bass lines, emotive vocals and songwriting! My first actual band, c. 1988-90. Amazing what we did in the studio, live, all barely 20 years old! (I recovered a high quality metal-oxide tape copy and now offer "Subversion" beautifully restored, for you on Bandcamp!)
You can hear our earlier 4 track 1988 demo "Obscure" on YouTube. With the newly restored versions of "Love At First Sight", I'd say we were easily the match for ANY band out there! Standout songs included also "Camera Obscura", "Picture Perfect", "Sky" and "How" (all written by me). Our one live show proved we could've been epic, with our spot-on covers of "Fascination Street", "New Years Day", "She Drive's Me Crazy", and "The Light Pours Out of Me" (All which got encores!). But my MDD/mental illness had other plans... Until now, so here it is!
Produced By Ad Astra at Woodland West Studios, KS Live on December 17, 1989. Additional production by Evet S.
